Only 5 weeks til 2020 Paddle for Pedder

1/22/2020

Comments

Only 5 weeks to go until the 2020 Paddle for Pedder on Saturday 29 Feb to Sunday 1 March. We now have three events on the Sunday to cater to all ages and abilities:
  • The 25km Paddle: meet at 7am at Scotts Peaks Dam. You can choose to kayak 25kms to raise the Restore Pedder banner above the original Lake Pedder beach. This stunning paddle is 12.5kms out, passing through Mount Solitary and Terminal Peak, to above the original beach and then the return paddle. You need to arrange your own expedition kayak, safety and warm gear. Estimated return time to Scotts Peak Dam is between 3 to 5pm.
  • The 8km Paddle: meet at 7:30am at Scotts Peak Dam. This event will be a leisurely paddle aiming for Scotts Peak. We will be grouping people into teams of 4 to 5 based on ability. The teams will go at their own pace and the group can turn around or do a shorter distance if preferred. BYO kayak or raft, safety and warm gear. Estimated return time to Scotts Peak Dam is noon.
  • Restore Pedder Walk and Talk: meet at 10:30am at Pedder Wilderness Lodge. Meet our ecologists Dr. Anita Wild and LPR Co-Convenors Todd Dudley and Christine Milne at the Pedder Wilderness Lodge at 10:30am for morning tea (approx 2 hour drive from Scotts Peak Dam or 2.5 hours from Hobart). Anita, Todd and Christine will take you on a gentle walk to show the existing restoration at Strathgordon and then more discussion about the principles, practices and ethics associated with ecological restoration at the Pedder Lodge where we will have lunch and finish by 3pm to allow time to drive back to Hobart in daylight hours.  If you are not able to join the walking part of this day, there will still be plenty of discussion at lunch at the lodge.
